Get your skis shined up

24 hours. 1,440 minutes. 86,400 seconds. 2,000 people. $2M raised for local kids in need.

For the 3rd year in a row I am incredibly honoured to be skiing 24h Tremblant – a relay style ski event and a festive, fun-filled weekend. It’s a 24 hour non-stop, non-competitive ski & snowboard challenge. Teams even race through the wee hours of the night to record the most tracks carved. Most importantly, however, I ski to raise funds for the Sens Foundation who support vulnerable children and youth in our community.

My motivation

I ski for the 32,000 children and youth living in poverty in our Nation’s Capital; many of whom don’t have access to after-school or recreation programs for various reasons. I ski for kids like Brandon.

Through his school, he was introduced to the Sens Sports and Leadership League at the Boys and Girls Club Ottawa. Today, Brandon is a proud member of the Club and a Sens Sports and Leadership League participant.

The incredible staff at the Club help him with his homework and allow him to burn off some of that excess energy running up and down the court playing basketball and floor hockey. Just like many little boys, Brandon dreams of being a professional hockey player when he grows up. Together we can help make that dream come true.

Listen to what he has to say for all of the participants of 24h Tremblant.

I ski for the families of Roger’s House, a paediatric residential hospice in Ottawa that offers respite and end of life care along with grief and bereavement support. Since opening in 2006 Roger’s house has had over 2,500 admissions resulting in more than 15,000 days of care. I ski for kids like Chris.

He dreamed of running and playing basketball and was crushed when he found out he would never play.

Eight years ago he found out there were places and people to help him. That’s when he was introduced to the wonderful people at Roger’s House, the place he calls his home away from home.

Hear how grateful he is for all of the participants and donors of 24h Tremblant.

These are just a couple of the thousands of children and youth who will be helped through the Sens Foundation this year. Most of us can’t really imagine the challenges these children face – be it dealing with a disease or special needs – every day of their lives. The 24h Tremblant challenge pales in comparison.

Memories of a lifetime

This is my absolute favourite winter event of the year. From the time you arrive to the time the final amount raised is revealed the energy is electric. It’s a weekend of celebrating, emotion and connecting with amazing people. You hear stories of young children who never in a million years should be dealing with what they are. Of courage. Of hope. Inspiration. It’s a weekend that unites people.

Directly or indirectly, we are all affected by the plight of children. It is inspiring to know that our efforts translate into real changes in the lives of those who need it. None of this would have been possible without the kindness of thousands of donors. And that’s why I am asking for your support, and appealing to your generosity, to give to this deserving cause. To help vulnerable kids. To change a life forever.
