This morning the sun drew us out to frolic in Mother Nature’s winter playground. Layers were required as the air was crisp at -13°C or 8.6°F in the Centre of the Universe, aka Carp, ON (rural Ottawa).
The beast and I spent two hours in the bush as the sunbeams poured through the trees. It was one of the most beautiful winter mornings and reminded me of how fortunate we are to have this in our backyard. It was just what I needed to catch my breath.
About 3/4 of our way home Lois headed into the bush and up a knoll. When she turned back and gave me that look, I knew. It was the look of “there are deer that need herding up here mommy”. And like a bat outta hell she was gone.
Instead of freaking out I sat in the middle of the trail to wait. My calmness could have been from popping too many Ativan earlier but I soaked it all in. The sun. The fresh air. The deer leaping by as the beast pounced behind it. About 8 minutes later one happy girl came bounding back.0
