Last night I learned that this chick is getting too old to play on week nights. My brain forgot how to function today. However, it was worth it. This country girl shook it to an all Canadian line-up that featured the upcoming Jordan McIntosh, hometown girl Kira Isabella and BC boy Dallas Smith.
Tickets stated that doors opened at 7:30 with the show starting at 8:00. No concert ever starts on time though, right? Wrong. Sadly I missed Jordan McIntosh. Luckily I caught him on the radio the week before so at least could put something here. Watch for this kid. He’s the Biebs 5 years ago.
When Ottawan Kira Isabella hit the stage we sure knew it. Holy pipes! This girl can belt it. She has an amazing range, very similar to Carrie Underwood.
At only 21 she did well engaging her fans. She clearly understands the social side of the business with a GoPro camera attached to her pink bejewelled mic stand that faced her audience the entire show. She also performed a song in the crowd, allowing people to take selfies with her.
When Dallas Smith took the stage he proved that heat rises…and it wasn’t just the hot flashes I’ve been experiencing. This boy has swagger and has clearly taught the rest of his boys about it too. They were all entertainers riffing it up. I’m also going to assume that a full-sleeve tat is a pre-requisite when Dallas chooses his band mates adding to the droolalisciousness factor.
While the venue was intimate the sound and energy was that of a 20,000 seat stadium. Dallas Smith showed up to rock it and he did. Tunes from his new album were played along with ones before he broke into the country scene just a couple of few years ago.
What you may not know is that Dallas Smith is also the lead singer for Default. When he broke into Wasting My Time, those at the show who actually lived through the 90’s and just weren’t born in them went crazy. His version of Imagine Dragon’s Radioactive was also pretty epic. Think early days Eddie Vedder.
The concert was a fantastic showcase of Canadian talent. Ottawa’s New Country 94 put together a phenomenal line up. Thanks to them country music is back in Ottawa. And that makes this country girl at heart a happy one.
